Dr. Eli Ipp is a Professor in Residence of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and an experienced clinical and translational researcher. Dr. Ipp is a Diabetologist, currently working on funded research in diabetic retinopathy, investigating pathophysiological pathways and health services research to improve retinal screening rates in the diabetic population. Dr. Ipp’s roles in the CTSI include Associate Director of the CTRC at Lundquist-Harbor UCLA, Recruitment expert, Regulatory Expert and co-lead of the Regulatory Knowledge and Support (RKS) program for the CTSI. He also participates in multi- institutional research within the CTSI. His role in the PCIR involves co-management of the operations of the CTSI at this site, which consists of outpatient and nutritional research units. This involves managing scientific review and pre-review of protocols and working with investigators to facilitate their use of CTRC resources; encouraging mentorship of young investigators and working with managers of the core facilities. Dr. Ipp’s role as Recruitment Expert is to facilitate recruitment and retention of patients for clinical investigation and clinical trials. Dr. Ipp coordinates activities of other members of the recruitment team at Lundquist. He also interacts with other Recruitment Experts in the CTSI to coordinate activities and share best practices. The goal is to assist investigators to identify and choose optimal patients for different studies, using coordinated approaches across the CTSI. After a long career in clinical research at Lundquist, Dr. Ipp has extensive experience in recruiting minority patients to long term and cross sectional studies and apply that experience to help other investigators with recruitment efforts. His role as a Regulatory expert is based on current and past clinical research protocols supported by NIH, State, Foundation and Industry, which have provided an understanding of all aspects of sponsored research. Dr. Ipp has been a member of the Lundquist/Harbor-UCLA IRB for many years and administered the Data and Safety Monitoring Plan Review of the CTSI CTRC. He liaises with the local IRB, for human subject and DSM issues. He is also available for liaison with the Regulatory lead at UCLA to provide investigators with expert and pro-active guidance and advice on regulatory issues to facilitate clinical and translational research in conformance to changing IRB policies, State Laws, and Federal Regulations. Dr. Ipp also provides his expertise on faculty recruitment for the Network Capacity program in the UCLA CTSI.
